Medical Director & PracSoft Backup - (CyberSecure Advanced)
Document Version: 1.0
Overview
Backing up Medical Director is treated in two parts:
- The SQL database
- ManageEzy documents
We will create a separate backup set for each of these, one of type "MS SQL Server", the other of type "File Backup".
Prerequisites
- Medical Director/PracSoft must be installed already.
- CyberSecure ADVANCED must be installed already.
- All Windows® updates should be installed prior to following this tutorial.
Medical Director SQL database backup set
Configuring the backup with CyberSecure ADVANCED
- In the main program screen, open the backup settings by clicking the "cog" icon at the bottom of the window.
- Now add a backup set by using the "plus" icon.
- Select a backup set of type "MS-SQL Server Backup". For this tutorial, the backup set label will be "MD3-SQL".
- Choose your server, Login ID and password options. Normally, these will not need to be changed, unless you have changed the system SQL server settings.
- Pick the databases to backup. We recommend backing up:
- HCNSQL07\HCN
- HCNSQL07\HCN_MNGEZY
- HCNSQL07\HCN_SAMPLES_MNGEZY
- HCNSQL07\HCN_CONTENT
- HCNSQL07\HCN_SAMPLES
- ESP\EasyClaim
- Choose your schedule. The default schedule selected is to perform
a database backup every Friday night and a
transaction log backup Monday through Thursday (weeknights).
This schedule must be changed to perform DATABASE backups ONLY.
- Remove the Transaction Log backup schedule
- Open the [Properties] of the Database backup schedule
- Change the schedule to run on the desired days
- We recommend leaving the encryption settings as the defaults. IMPORTANT: this will encrypt your data with the current login password.
- The "Backup set created successfully" window will be displayed.
- Back at the main screen, please "Save Settings" to push the configuration onto the CyberSecure servers.
- IMPORTANT: during the backup process, the software will
spool out the entire
MS-SQL database to a temporary location.
It's critical that this temporary location has enough
free space to hold your entire MD3/PS database, by default this
is stored on the C:\ drive.
To change the spooling location:
- Open the backup settings (cog icon).
- Click on the "Options" setting in the left pane.
- Note the "Temporary directory for storing backup files" location.
- Select an appropriate location, such as "D:\CS-spool"
- Ensure that you "Save Settings" when you are back at the main screen.
For best performance, we recommend having the spooling location on a separate drive.
ManageEzy backup set
Now that the SQL database backup has been created, the ManageEzy document backup set will be setup.
- In the main program screen, open the backup settings by clicking the "cog" icon at the bottom of the window.
- Create a new backup set by clicking the "plus" icon.
- Call the backup set "ManageEzy" and ensure that it's of type "File Backup set".
- In the file selection screen, UNCHECK "My Documents" and click ADVANCED.
- By default, the ManageEzy data is stored under C:\ManageEzy. Select this location by expanding out the drive tree and clicking the tickbox next to the ManageEzy folder in the LEFT pane.
- Click OK, then next onto the backup schedule.
- Choose an appropriate time for the ManageEzy schedule to run by clicking "Properties".
- We highly recommend leaving the encryption settings on their defaults.
- Backup set created successfully. When back at the main screen, "Save Settings".
- Now change the backup spooling location to be the same location
as the SQL backup set previously setup. This is done by:
- Opening the backup settings (cog icon).
- Selecting the ManageEzy backup set.
- Clicking on "Options" in the left pane.
- Ensure that settings are saved when back at the main screen.
Next steps
- Now that the backup is setup, you may want to follow the seeding tutorial to perform the initial data "seed" onto external drive.
