Restoring Exchange data from Shadow Protect

Prerequisites

  • Ontrack PowerControls
  • Latest Microsoft Outlook
  • ShadowProtect
  • Encryption password
  1. Mount the relevant ShadowProtect volumes from your backups. You need to know:
    1. The date/time you want to restore from
    2. The volume with your Exchange Database (edb file)
    3. The volume (if different) with your Exchange log files. If you use multiple volumes ensure each volume is from the same snapshot
  2. Run Ontrack PowerControls
  3. Click File > Open Source…
  4. Select EDB File (*.edb) as your source. There are 3 paths you need (see below)
    1. EDB Path – path to the edb file from your mounted backup
      eg. E:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 1234567890\Mailbox Database 1234567890.edb
    2. Log File Path – path to your exchange log files. This may be on a different volume
      eg. E:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\Logs\MessageTracking\
    3. Temporary File Path – path to where you want to store temp files
  5. Once it’s loaded, right click on the account you want to restore and click Export…

  6. The mailbox will be exported to the pst file you specified
